Committees

FOUR AVENUES OF SERVICE

I. COMMUNITY SERVICE
EDUCATION COMMITTEE - The committee plans and conducts projects to assist students and schools in our community. Recent projects include tutoring students, reading programs, field trips to Beef and Boards, and conducting the Rotary Four Way Test ethics program for middle school students. The Committee also works on collecting supplies and books for Indianapolis Public S chools.

YOUTH RECOGNITION SUB COMMITTEE - The committee develops programs to recognize outstanding students in Indianapolis. Current projects include the Spelling Bee, Rotary Speech Contest, and High School Honors Day.

ENVIRONMENT AND BEAUTIFICATION COMMITTEE - The committee is committed to providing opportunities for the club membership to participate in programs and activities that enhance the environment and contribute to the physical attractiveness of the city. COMMUNITY SERVICE COMMITTEE - The committee develops projects for the club membership to participate in that will benefit the needy and assist community organizations and agencies. Projects that align with this committee: Habitat for Humanity, Meals on Wheels, Salvation Army Bell Ringing, Blood Drive, School Supply Round-up, Gleaners.

RILEY FUNDRAISING - The committee is responsible for generating funds to fulfill the $1M pledge to the Riley Children’s Hospital Critical Care Center, by 2009? Chaired by the President Elect, the committee will plan activities within the Club and the community.

II. CLUB SERVICE

BUDGET COMMITTEE - The committee prepares a proposed budget for the upcoming year that is submitted to the club Executive Committee and Board of Directors. The committee becomes familiar with the entire operation of the club.

COMMUNICATIONS COMMITTEE - The committee is responsible for communications within the club and to the community. Committee members work with the Rotary office to produce the monthly newsletter and the weekly email meeting announcements. They also help maintain the club website and develop all club printed materials. The committee is also responsible for public relations and promoting our Rotary club to the community.

MEMBER RECOGNITION Sub Committee

HISTORY COMMITTEE - This committee is responsible for maintaining a record of all club information which it believes to have historical value, reviewing and preserving club records and periodically updating the permanent history of the club. The committee also conducts historical research on club matters, gives presentations and creates publications and displays on club history and assists in planning for celebrations of major milestones in Rotary’s history.

MEMBERSHIP DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE - This committee is responsible for seeking new members for our club. They develop prospects for membership, and explain membership requirements and expectations to interested applicants. The committee also deals with current member requests for classification changes, leaves of absence, resignations, and other related issues.

MEMBER RETENTION SUB-COMMITTEE - This committee is responsible for encouraging members, in particular new members, to participate in the activities of the club and become active and involved Rotarians. It assists in the orientation of new members and supervises the club’s mentoring program. Monitors resigning member process.

ORIENTATION SUBCOMMITTEE - Responsible for orienting new members about our Rotary Club and Rotary International

PROGRAM COMMITTEE - The committee is responsible for arranging for each week’s program of speakers.

SERGEANT-AT-ARMS COMMITTEE - The Sergeant at Arms Committee is responsible for the set up, tear down and storage of all meeting related flags, literature, attendance cards, badges, etc. When the room is set, they function as greeters at the entryways to the ballroom. Two members also help with the selling of 50/50 tickets. This committee has reserved seating for lunch and may have responsibilities during the program such as lights or AV assistance. The majority of the members of this committee are new Rotarians.

CHAPLAIN'S SUB-COMMITTEE - This committee is responsible for offering diverse invocations at the weekly meetings. It determines ways of keeping in touch with Rotarians who are hospitalized, or whose health or infirmities prevent them from attending Rotary meetings. They also determine ways in which to provide assistance for Rotarians who are experiencing a crisis in their lives.

HOSPITALITY SUB-COMMITTEE - The committee is responsible for greeting and registering visiting Rotarians and guests at regular club meetings, answering questions of these guests, and introducing visiting Rotarians and guests.

SOCIAL ACTIVITIES COMMITTEE - The committee develops activities to provide fellowship for Rotarians and their families outside the weekly meeting. Recent projects include the Book Club, Wine Tasting events, trips to Symphony on the Prairie, the Indianapolis Opera, sporting events, etc. Rotary Golf, Bowling & Softball also fall under this committee.

TICKET ASSISTANTS SUB-COMMITTEE - Assists the Rotary staff in selling lunch tickets on Tuesday, duty is from 11:30-11:55 or 11:55-12:15. Great way to interact with members.

III. INTERNATIONAL SERVICE
WORLD COMMUNITY SERVICE PROJECTS COMMITTEE - This committee is responsible for identifying international service projects which might be of interest to the club membership and develops a plan for the implementation of the service projects in partnership with an overseas Rotary Club. Generally these plans are long term in nature (5 years or more) and revolve around building the capacity of the Rotary Club we assist. Currently the committee is in the final phases of projects with the Rotary Club of Savanna la Mar, Jamaica. The committee now has its eyes set on projects with clubs in Kenya, Zimbabwe, South Africa and other areas of the African Continent. The committee also strives to assist the international projects of other clubs in our District 6560.

YOUTH EXCHANGE COMMITTEE - The committee is responsible for implementing the program providing high school students the opportunity to spend twelve months studying in a foreign country, and for high school students from foreign countries to study in Indianapolis. The committee is responsible for arranging for families to serve as hosts for "in-bound" students.

ROTARY INTERNATIONAL FOUNDATION COMMITTEE - This committee is responsible for encouraging members to become Paul Harris Fellows and thereby supporting the programs of the Rotary International Foundation. This committee coordinates the annual Paul Harris Fellow recognition.

ROTARY SCHOLARSHIPS SUB COMMITTEE - The subcommittee is responsible for selecting qualified undergraduate, graduate and/or post graduate students to be considered for study abroad with a Rotary Ambassadorial scholarship program.

IV. VOCATIONAL SERVICE
VOCATIONAL SERVICE COMMITTEE - The committee develops ways for Rotarians to learn about the vocations of fellow club members. It also promotes the importance of the Rotary ideals of service in our professional lives.

TRADE FAIR COMMITTEE - This committee plans and conducts the annual Rotary Trade Fair, an exhibition at which Rotarians can exhibit the products or services of their businesses. This is a great networking tool.
