My recent invocation seemed to be well received.  It mentioned the discovery of an exoplanet 120 trillion miles away that may harbor life and asked the question: "Are we special?"

Well, it seems that reports of the discovery may be a bit premature.  This follow-up article on Slate states Swiss astronomers "could find no trace of the prized planet in their observations of the same planetary system."

David Pogue of the NYT explains social media for people who haven't 'caught up' yet in today's article.

In today's New York Times, author and columnist Thomas Friedman wrote a piece titled: "A Question from Lydia."  Friedman's article laments the financial meltdown in Greece, but then he turns to the increased importance of personal responsibility in an increasingly interlinked world.

He has explored this thesis before in The World is Flat but not (as far as I can remember,) from the perspective that what happens in the lives of individuals affects what is felt by the rest of the world.

The Rotary Four Way Test is a good foundation upon which to measure personal responsibility and actions.  I think about it every Tuesday and it follows me around the rest of the week.  Based on this article by Friedman, if only in a small way, stepping up to a high standard of business conduct can change the world for the better.

Rotary is just in time it seems.

Today's (8/25) lunch featured a speech by Andre Carson, member of the U.S. House of Representatives from the 7th District in Indiana. I found myself daydreaming during most of it; as I do when speakers read word-for-word from a prepared text.  The CEO of Lilly did the same thing.  If that's what they're going to do just send me a PDF and save me the time.

Greg Albright has done an OUTSTANDING job creating our new web presence!

Our site will become the model for our district and a shining example for Rotarians around the world.  Taking our 'Service above Self' message to a wider audience than ever before!

Great Job Greg!
